What are "traditional services" like?
Our traditional services are held in the chapel of the church and last approximately one hour. You may sit in any row you like
(but the front seats are the best!) We follow an order of service found in the Lutheran Hymnal, which also contains most of the
hymns that are sung during the service. The adult choir or Sunday School children may also sing during the service. Music is played
on the organ. After confessing our sins, we sing the psalms and quietly reflect on the day's readings. The sermon is delivered from
the pulpit, followed by general prayers. Communion is offered on the first and third Sundays of the month. At the conclusion of the
service, ushers excuse the congregation row by row. Dress is generally more formal for this service. Visit our
Traditional Service page to see service times and photos.

What is a "contemporary service"?
Contemporary services are held in the gymnasium, which is known as our
Christian Family Center. This service lasts approximately one hour, but
is more casual, in dress and in style. You can sit in the chairs (front
seats are the best, of course) or in the bleachers. We begin with a Friendship
Exchange, which is simply a few minutes to let everyone say "hello" and
maybe learn a new name. After confessing our sins, the sermon is delivered
from the stage, often utilizing visual aids such as computer presentations
projected onto a screen. A band, consisting of guitarists, pianists, drummer
and soloists, plays more modern songs, such as those heard on Christian
radio stations. After each song (except for the confessional song) we
clap our hands just like the Old Testament believers did. We do this as
an expression of joy for the greatness of God, not as applause for human
musicians. At the conclusion of the service, the group rises and exits
without the aide of ushers. Visit our
Contemporary Service page to see
service times and photos.

How will I know what to do when I get to your church?
When you enter the church you will find a greeter, or family of greeters, who will shake your hand and give you a warm welcome.
If you have questions about anything they will do their best to answer them. You will also find ushers in the back of church during
the traditional service, or in the entrance to the gym for the contemporary services, who can help you. Our pastors are available
before and after the services and would be glad to meet you and assist you in any way. Finally, you will also find our members
friendly and caring as they welcome you to St. Paul.

Do you have a visitor's table?
Yes, we have one located at both our upper and lower entrances. Help yourself to any of the literature you find there. Also, please
sign your name in our guest book at the back of church so we have a record of your visit.

Can I take part in Communion if I visit?
Out of concern for everyone's soul we practice close Communion, inviting to the Lord's Supper only those able and instructed to
examine themselves. We are very careful in our Communion practice because of what God's Word cautions... "For anyone who eats and
drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself" (1 Corinthians 11:27-29). In addition,
participating together in Holy Communion is a public statement about what ones believes about Jesus and his Word. Therefore,
guests who are not members of St. Paul's should speak with one of the pastors before taking part in the Lord's Supper.

Do you collect an offering?
Yes, the offerings we bring before the Lord are an expression of love for Him. He is the giver of everything we enjoy in this life.
We are privileged to share back with God a portion of what we enjoy. Our offerings are used to carry out the mission of Saint Paul
congregation in sharing Jesus with our community and world, and of nurturing God's people in discipleship. Our offerings consist not
only of money shared through the offering plate, but really encompass our entire lives, the sharing also with the Lord of our time
and our talents. God loves a cheerful giver! (2 Corinthians 9:7)

Can children attend the services?
We welcome children to our worship services to hear God's word. The last few pews in the back of the chapel are especially reserved
for parents with small children. We also offer special children's bulletins and crayons so kids can color pictures relating to the
day's theme. If you need to leave for a moment, for quiet time, there is a library located by the front doors of the chapel and a
fireplace room located near the elevator on the first level of the Christian Family Center.

Is childcare available during the service?
No. At Saint Paul, we rejoice in the presence of children at our services. We feel that it is an important lesson for our children,
from little up, to be present at worship. In addition, memories of parent's modeling their faith are placed into a child's heart.
Families that pray together regularly are strong families.
